Qiviut

I just learned something new. Today's gain in knowledge is due to the amazing Yarn Harlot:

Qiviut is finer than cashmere and warmer than wool. It's the downy undercoat of the artic musk oxen. It doesn't felt and It. Does. Not. Itch.

I want to try some of this qiviut! It doesn't felt... I guess that means it's machine washable? Cool!

Update: I googled qiviut... looking at the price, I don't think I'll be trying it any time soon.

If you like cashmere and think it is expensive, then don't ever buy anything made out of qiviut. It is amazing!! All they say about it is true. It is soft, light, warm, durable, and expensive. I found myself at a muskox farm in Alaska last summer. From the instant I felt the yarn, I fell in love. I bought a hat and wore it all winter.(I live in Colorado) I am now saving for a scarf. Qiviut makes cashmere feel heavy and scratchy by comparison. I am hooked!
