I finished the first pair of toe socks tonight, and started a second. They're pretty boring, so I'll wait to post pictures until after I've finished a few pairs. When I wrap them up for my grandma S, I'm going to wrap each pair individually (inside a larger package) in tissue paper, and attach a little card with a saying that matches the socks.
For the blue cotton socks, I think I'll write: "When you're feeling blue, remember I'm thinking of you."
I've started a second pair in my leftover KnitPicks Crayon yarn. The saying for these socks will have something to do with "her inner child."
I've got enough Knitpicks Dancing yarn to make a pair from that, and also some plain green Kroy yarn (probably enough), and plain blue Sock It To Me yarn. After I finish my mom's Regia rainbow socks (not yet started... I need to finish my easter egg socks, or Bob's socks first), I'm hoping to have enough left over for a pair from that too. I think this will give her a fun combination of plain and daring toe socks. :) I should probably also find some more cotton yarn, and maybe a pair from merino wool too. (If I place another KnitPicks order, I'll toss in a ball of one of their merino sock yarns.)
My grandma S is turning 90 this August. She's really hard to buy for, but she loved the toe socks I made her when I was home last Christmas. (Toe socks are socks that are around 4" long and just cover the tips of your feet, with an elastic around the heel to hold them on. Grandma S has to wear compression "socks" to prevent swelling in her legs, but those socks don't cover her toes. If she puts regular socks over the compression socks, her feet get too hot. If she doesn't, her toes freeze. Toe socks solve the problem.) She's been wearing just the one pair, and washing them at night. I've decided I'll make her several pairs, so she can have different colours to choose from, and also a choice between wool and cotton blends.
If you have any ideas about what else I can include in her gift, will you let me know?

Sounds like your grammie loved the last pair of socks, so I'll bet she'll be thrilled with these! The whole time you were saying toe socks, I thought you meant those socks that are like gloves for your feet - I'm wondering "where the heck did she get a pattern for those??" LOL!
Oh yeah, if you'd like, I'd be happy to send along a stash of glycerine soap, we carry a whole line of scents plus unscented at my work. Just let me know, I can pick it up today...

I think "Crocheted Socks" has a pattern for the foot glove type... according to the index they have a pattern called "wiggly toes".

This isn't glycerine soap, but it's the one soap that a friend of mine (Christi) with a sulfur/ite/ate sensitivity has found that she can use. You might give it a try if getting glycerin soap some other way doesn't work out.

You can get it at places like Whole Foods. You do have to try not to be put off by the badly written (as in by someone whose first language was definitely NOT English) Bible verses all over the packaging, though. They're actually kinda amusing.
*sigh* ...I remember that soap. My former roommate F used that soap, and it sat there and lectured me every time I had a shower. Natalie is sending me some soap, so I think I'll leave the lecture soap as an absolutely last resort. ;)
Well, you could always tranfer it to a different bottle, if the lectures don't float your boat! ;)
