Interview

I'm getting lots of referrals via dogs steal yarn, so I had better answer my interview questions!

1. So I’m interview number six for you... (What am I? Just another notch on your blogbelt? And I thought what we had was special! Sob, sniff)... What question do you wish someone would ask that hasn’t come up yet?

I'm sorry! I have been running around a bit. But you are special! I never meant to hurt your feelings! If it makes you feel better, I only asked six out of the approximately 130 blogs I read. I do not keep notches on my blogbelt... every single one is special to me! Will you feel better if I never ask anyone else for another one? ;)

Hmmm... what question... I don't know. If I knew of one, I'd just blog about the answer anyway. I'll spontaneously blog on just about anything here... which is one reason why I called it my soapbox.

2. Do crocheters ever get needle envy? I mean, knitters get to use two but you guys only have that hook and all... And everyone calls you hookers, and frankly the knitters do get all the glory... How does it feel to be a crocheter in a world where knitting seems to dominate?

No, the hook is much more practical. If you drop your hook, oops, just slip it back in the loop. Dropping a needle is much worse, and many knitters are lost. We may be hookers, but we're also "hooked" on crochet. ;) Yes, knitting does seem to get all the glory, but that's starting to change. Gone is the days of nothing-but-tacky-granny-squares and crochet that attempts to be knitting. Crochet works much better when properly treated as a separate discipline. I'm working on creating patterns that take advantages of the properties of crochet.

No hard feelings against knitting. After all, knitting yarn can be used by crocheters too, so the more yarn stores the better. And there are some fabulous knitting patterns out there. Knitting is not crochet, and crochet is not knitting. They both have their place.

3. Or do you knit too and I missed that?

I used to know how, and I'm trying to relearn. I haven't yet, but I haven't had a lot of time to practice. When the progress bar for the Weasley sweater makes it past 0%, that'll be a good indication that I've finally relearned to knit. ;)

4. What’s the best, most gratifying reaction you’ve gotten from a handcrafted gift?

I made a crocheted teddy bear for my grandma (after she said how much she liked a previous one I made), and she loves it! It sits out on her couch, and she tells me how much she loves it whenever I visit. It is the only stuffed animal in her apartment. I love that I made her so happy!

5. And the worst?

I haven't had too many bad experiences yet... I've mostly been crocheting for myself, or for people who say they want an item. I've had a potholder get rejected, but then, it took me less than an hour to make.

And Ro, I have no problems interviewing you again, I just wanted to make sure you hadn't made a mistake. ;) Here's your new & improved questions:

1. Do you believe depression is "all in your head", or a real disorder caused by a chemical imbalance?
2. What is your favourite thing you do to cheer yourself up?
3. Did you have a favourite stuffed animal as a kid? What was/is it like?
4. What sorts of things have you made with swapped buttons so far? Or have you only just started?
5. What is one of your favourite memories?
