Costs

Yikes! Hmmm... I think a dog is a bit out of my price range. According to this website, dogs cost *quite* a bit: "LIFETIME TOTALS: $20,720; $2,375 in the first year, $1,975 annually; $2,140 for older dogs." That first year cost is half a year's tuition. :P

It adds up. But it is sooo worth it. Currently we have 2 dogs and a cat. The younger dog though, gives us heartburn because she's so destructive. She's a lab mix and therefore likes to eat everything. This eating everything is supposed to get better around 2 years old. But I think other breeds are better about this (not to scare you away)! I still wouldn't trade her, or the other dog and cat, for anything.

it is $$! I mean, we do all of their shots ourselves (except rabies), which is relatively inexpensive, but then if you add in everything... food, preventatives, toys, treats, crates, leashes, etc... it does grow rather quickly. :)

Still cheaper than a child. LOL!

It can be pricey, though it's the kind of expense I don't even think about except for when a really big bill (like Penny's surgery) comes up. But, like jessica said, it's sooo worth it, and I wouldn't trade my babies for anything.

Still, probably better for you to wait until you're back in Canada and not a struggling grad student. :-)
