Candidates Day Entertainment

The new batch of graduate student candidates are having their "candidates day weekend" today and tomorrow. Right now appears to be the time alloted to the department tour. I'm finding it rather amusing. No, I'm not taking the tour, but my office is right across from the student lounge, which contains items such as a TV and a foosball table. It's interesting to hear how the different faculty describe the lounge. Especially the difference between the faculty who do and don't play foosball. ;) And then there's the times where I become part of the tour: "and here is a typical graduate student office... when you reach the top of the graduate student food chain." (Well, not quite those words. But I am a lucky recipient of a window office.)

It's providing a nice distraction to my proposal... which, amazingly, I'm actually making progress on. I don't know how I got this amazing bit of motivation, but I hope it revisits next week too! I'm moving along nicely enough that I'm having real hopes of graduating again. :))
