Mystery

Campus Construction
Campus Construction

Maybe you guys can help me.

This is one of the buildings on campus that's being rennovated.

Why did they paint over all the windows? And then add brown paint to some? This really has me curious... I can't figure out the logic!!!

Thanks for any suggestions... the curiosity is driving me nuts. (And I don't need any more help to be nuts.)

Which building is it?

According to the campus map, it's "Wilson".

I couldn't identify it visually, but when you said it was "Wilson," it clicked with me that that's the Wilson Library, which houses the university's special collections (manuscripts, that sort of thing).

So I did some digging, and found the following page (http://www.lib.unc.edu/mss/) which mentions that the library is currently under renovation to improve telecommunications.

There is also this (http://www.fpc.unc.edu/CIP/Projects.asp?Project=203) which appears to be ongoing.

Of course, none of this explains why different colors of paint are on the windows. Sorry I'm not of more help!

Or it could be Wilson Hall (a completely different building than Wilson Library): http://www.fpc.unc.edu/CIP/Projects.asp?Project=8

Aren't I just a font of useless information? ;)

Actually, it isn't Wilson Library... that building is gray, and much more distinctive. This one is at the southeast corner of South Columbia and South (gee, that's a lot of souths there), and I think it has the zoological library or something, plus classrooms and offices.

Snap... we were typing at the same time.

Actually, kelliamanda sent me two possibilities by e-mail... one was that the windows were painted to prevent eye-damage in onlookers due to welding torches, and the second was that there's apparently a protective paint that can be peeled off, that protects glass and windowframes.

But thanks for the links. ;)
