Harry Potter A
This is the "A" I designed for my Weasley sweater. I based it on one of the Harry Potter fonts available. I didn't want to risk downloading and installing one of the fonts, but this website has graphics of all the characters in several fonts. I used the "lowercase" A from the Lumos font.

Very nice. I like it. Have you done intarsia before?

Nope. This is my "learn to knit" project. So far I've learned cast on, purl, knit, and, recently with the gauge swatch, cast off. ;) When I make it to the letter, I'll be learning intarsia. Do you have any tips?
Given that these jumpers were supposedly poorly knit (although I don't remember that from the books... just that Ron never liked the colour of his), I figure this is the perfect learning project. Plus, by the time I'm done, I should be a pro at stockinette! ;) (I'm already feeling pretty good... although some additional speed would be nice.)
I have not done a lot of intarsia, so I'm probably not the best one to ask for advice. I do know that if you have bobbins for your contrasting color it helps, but you can do butterflies, too. I did a purse that had big blocks of different colors earlier this year, and bobbins helped a lot. Of course, then I felted/fulled the whole thing, so my mistakes were not visible.
Good luck with your Weasley. It sounds like lots of fun.

That "A" looks great! Love that Lumos font. I used it for some signs in my recent Harry Potter window.
If you're nervous about the intarsia, you could always knit the sweater without the letter and go back and duplicate stitch the "A" on to the front. Just a thought. If you do the intarsia, just be sure you lock those yarns when you change colors (by bringing the new color up from underneath the old color). I've put a little tutorial up on my site ages ago with some pics if that would help: http://alison.knitsmiths.us/intarsia.html
Can't wait to see it all done!
