One Word

I found this at Deneen's blog:

Please leave a one-word comment that you think best describes me--it can only be one word long. Then copy and paste this into your blog so I may leave a comment about you. This is not so much about fishing for compliments as it is an exercise showing how hard it is to use just one word to describe someone.

(It's apparently also at Bron's blog, but I'm 635 posts behind in my bloglines, so I haven't seen it there yet. I don't suppose everyone could stop writing while I catch up? I thought not. ;) )

And, uh, yeah... I'm not being real productive right now.

Wedgewood Socks

I did indeed finish H's socks over lunch. I love how they turned out! I need to make myself a similar pair. :)

Up next, some socks for John from my New York purchases:

I gave my NC nostepinne some good, Canadian Koigu loving last night, and have three of the four skeins wound. I'll be starting J's socks on the way home tonight.

Koigu tends to run a bit short for me, and J has big feet (not enormous, but definitely man feet), so I decided to play it safe and buy four skeins. I'll make a pair for myself out of what's left over, plus some other stuff to make it stretch.

Quick Update

Whee... I've finally finished reading my brother's paper. :) It has some problems, but on the whole, is not bad.

I've still been running around with too much to do, and not enough time to do it. I've shrunk a selection of trip photos, and will hopefully get that uploaded and posted soon. ;)

In other news, H and I have started exercising! Yesterday we did weights, and this morning we went for a jog/walk. I'm weighing about 2.5 lbs less than I did in Chapel Hill. :)

The socks I'm making for H are nearly done. I'll probably finish them up at lunch.

Eep, this weekend is already jam-packed. I have stuff planned for Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. Looks like life won't be slowing down any time soon. However, Sunday is the bookshelf, so hopefully soon I'll be able to make more progress with the unpacking. Speaking of which, it's about time to give myself another hair cut. I know where the clippers are, but they're a bit awkward to get to at the moment.

Well, back to a bit of dissertation stuff before lunch. I think I'll try to start organizing to write up that May breakthrough.

Contest Post

I'm *dead* tired, but if I don't post today, I can't enter Sara's contest.

I'm a big fan of Christmas ornaments, and I don't think I can pick just one. I have a lot! (And that's not even all of them... I haven't been keeping the page updated.)

Instead, I'll tell you how I choose Christmas ornaments.

You may notice I have a lot of glass ornaments. The most precious ornaments on my mom's tree are the glass ornaments she inherited, I think from *her* grandmother. These were always hung right at the top, where they'd be safer. I'm fond of glass ornaments because they remind me of decorating the tree with my mom, and also of family history and heirlooms. However, a tree with only glass ornaments would be a bit boring.

I tend to pick ornaments based on their individuality. I especially like if they have a story (either made up, or a personal history).

Gah... falling asleep as I type. I'll add more in the morning, maybe.

Some have asked who John is. He's the one on the right.

What? Oh... you want details? John said to send you here.

I was going to blog more tonight, but I'm exhausted from my fantastic adventure over the past five days. I'll get to it eventually. ;) I'm back in Winnipeg now, but I need to be able to get up tomorrow morning.

Blogging Out And About

Right now I'm sitting in a Second Cup in Montreal near McGill. I could have internet access if I felt like paying $6 for an hour, or $13 for a day. However, I don't. Especially not after paying $4.54 for a small fruit smoothie. Instead, I'll write an e-mail blog post which will get sent whenever I connect next.

It was sunny while I was walking. However, one of those quick summer thundershowers seems to be passing overhead right now. Those without umbrellas are looking rather hurried and wet.

The flight here was uneventful. I think a majority of the passengers were members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (football team). I knew I had a middle seat, so I was sort of dreading being squished between two big football players. It turns out my fears were groundless... I was squished between two large ladies instead.

I took the airport shuttle to Berri-UQAM, and from there took a leisurely stroll (with luggage) to this coffee shop which is the designated meeting point. I took a bit of a detour, due to being more interested what the street vendors were selling, than in what the street signs were saying. Not a problem... I like walking tours. ;)

It's 2:58, and I expect to meet J around 7 pm (plus or minus an hour). I hope they really don't mind customers sitting around forever. (J said they don't.)

The rain seems to be letting up now.

Ah-ha... there's a plug within reach. When my battery gets lower, I'll take advantage of it. I don't feel like getting up just yet. I'm enjoying sitting in a strange chair, listening to strange music, typing strange things. I have a headache, but all other signs of yesterday's illness, or whatever it was, seem to be gone. Well, my back is still stiff, but that still could be due to the run the other day.

I think a billboard just drove by. (I only caught a glimpse as it went past.) Those driving billboards are a massive waste of fuel. Do the trucks at least make other deliveries on their rounds? I don't think they do. I'm inclined to boycott any product advertised on a driving billboard, simply on principle.

Now they're playing a song I actually recognize... although I don't know what it's called.

There sure are a lot of smokers in Montreal. I'm glad they've banned smoking indoors now. It means the outside spots are all smoked out, but they were like that to a certain extent before. Now at least I can have clean air indoors.

Well, I think I'll spend some time reading my brother's paper. I'm getting close to done, and am at the point where he's describing his innovation.

Speaking of Moves

Sara (of Crochet All Day) has done some fiddling with her blog, and her feed has moved. At first I couldn't get bloglines to find the new feed, but today I tried the "Subscribe with Bloglines" button, and it worked. :)

Ugh.

I think I'm sick. I wasn't sure at first... the upset stomach could have been due to Aunt Flo or something I ate, and the aches could have been due to yesterday's run. The one nose gremlin was suspicious, but I had been feeling so great yesterday!

Well, I'm at work now, and am convinced that I am indeed sick. I think I'll take it easy today, and skip the gym.

Ugh. My body betrays me in times of stress. The prozac cured the regular end of term colds, but I think the stress in the last few weeks, together with being exposed to kiddies bearing germs, was just too much.

Thanks for your comments on the dresses. I'll go with the blue floral. (The brown split skirt is sulking a bit from being called names, and said something nasty to the blue dress about the way it's a tiny bit snug around the tummy, but it'll recover in time.)

Update: H drove me home and I slept most of the day. I'm feeling quite a bit better now.

Shelving

In addition to dancing in front of my camera's autotimer, laundry, and sewing up a pulled seam in the blue dress, Dad and I went to Home Depot. Seventy-three dollars later, I'm the proud owner of some knotty pine and a piece of hardboard that will hopefully become a 4'x6' bookshelf to hold my small fiction library. Since I'm off galavanting this weekend, the bookshelf (and unpacking of the books) will have to wait for the following weekend (or longer for the books, while I wait for the wood finish to quit off-gassing).

I'm really looking forward to having access to my mini-library again. :)
