I hate being greeted in a new place by creepy crawlies.
Especially in my bedroom, on my first night.
Anyone recognize my welcoming committee of one? I'm thinking "earwig", but it doesn't have the things on it's tail. If it helps to identify it, it moved fairly fast before I stepped on it. Looking at it from the top, it is long and skinny.

I'm not sure from this angle. I will say that female earwigs have a different shape to their tail: it doesn't look like a pincher. (earwigs: the only bug I really dislike).
Not sure if a google image search would help (not sure if you've noticed you can drag and drop a picture for "similar" searching) but - here are three websites that might help:

I like bugs.... :) Unfortunately, with the bug you have being somewhat - squished - it is not too easy to tell just what it looked like. If it didn't have wings, it could be a nymph stage...
Oh crap... some of the photos on the sites Catlady recommended look similar... it might be a termite! I've sent some photos away for identification. :(
Oh, and it really wasn't that squished from what it was originally. (I was a bit worried that I only stunned it.)
Definitely NOT an earwig,it MIGHT be a termite. Let's hope not.
Fingers crossed!
Termites usually have wings,my fiance said it did NOT look like a termite to him. He has seen them up close apparently,he's not sure what it IS is though.
From what I read, termites only have wings when they're swarming. It's definitely not one of the white termites, but does look disturbingly like:

:(
Yuck... looks like you might be right about the termite thing - just if the size is right - I thought you had mentioned it, but I was also wandering around the bug sites just looking, so I must have remembered that part ;)
Would help if you happen to see more....
If I do see another, I'll put it in a container so that I can get the actual thing identified, rather than not-so-good photos.
Uh-oh might be a good idea to get the house inspected by a pest control service just in case. Good luck.
Posted as a post, but repeating as a comment here: "The pictures of the insect that you provided have been found to be: a Devils coach horse beetle.
These insects are a family member of rove beetles. They are a predatory insect, and often found outside. This insect is not a concern indoors. Usually when they are found indoors, it is just because they wandered in."
Thank you, Poulins!
