Crochet Socks

Crochet Socks

It's been an awfully long time since I've bored you with socks, so I figured I should post these. I've gotten quite slack about posting socks... and my production rate has dropped significantly now that I'm usually sleeping on the bus. (Looks like I haven't learned to crochet in my sleep yet.) These are a gift for B. (Well, he paid for the yarn, but I gave him my time.)

Wow I love the way the yarn patterned. What sock pattern did you use? I have lots of the self pattern yarn but it never pools the way it does for knitters and I usually just end up with stripes. :(

I used two colours here, and controlled the patterning myself. The pattern I used is based on "Toes Up Crochet Socks", a free web pattern. (Which moved to a different site, and got modified...)

Thanks I actually have a good toe up pattern that I use, which I too have of course modified as well. LOL.

*grin* The key points to this pattern is that it's alternating sc/dc over an odd number of stitches (so you sc into a dc and vice versa), and the heel is short row.

I don't like short row heels. Now that I have learned the afterthought heel I much prefer that one. Will have to try the sc/dc method. I was disappointed with my last pair that I did with esc, they are stretching out much too soon. Used the Deborah Norville sock yarn that I bought at Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Is it because of holes that you don't like the short row heel? I made a bunch of modifications and so don't get holes.

I've never tried that yarn, so I have no idea if it's the yarn or the pattern.
