My first thought upon reading the title was that I'd probably manage to be allergic to them anyway. Then I saw this line:

'kay...seems like a read a book that dealt with hypoallergenic cats, but the outcome was not good...
Dunno if you'll get a Blogger comment at this late date, but I was reading that Siberian Forest Cats also have an unsusally low level of the allergy-causing protien and are OK for many people who have cat allergies.
They're likely not as hypoallergenic as these cats, but a lot cheaper. :-)
It seems that many Siberian Forest Cat breeders will send out samples of cat fur to prospective buyers so they can test their allergies before purchase.
It makes sense that they'd try to breed cats that are safe for most cat-allergic people: the market must be huge.
