Walking Around Historic Winnipeg

I had my camera out the other day while I was downtown, so I thought I'd give you a brief photo-tour of some of historical Winnipeg.

Oooo... neat that we had our own money, and that it was pretty!

I love this photo. (Perhaps I'll paint it...) These buildings were more kitty-corner, rather than directly across the street from the previous plaque, but they were prettier. ;)

I don't know if it was the same business back then, but I remember shopping for winter boots and school shoes at a shoe store at that location. I love the sculpture of the three ladies. That's new since I was a kid. ;)

Gorgeous wide sidewalk with trees!

Okay, so this last one doesn't have the same history as the rest, but I'm pretty sure this is the place I had the *fantastic* soup about ten years back. (Of course, I felt rotten the whole afternoon from the MSG.) They have a menu, but customers either order the bowl of soup, or the small bowl of soup. It was cheap and good! (Besides the MSG, that is.) I can't remember the kind of soup, but it's one of the popular ones at Chinese restaurants. Perhaps won ton soup?

State of the Desk

Whoops... either chemical-resistant refinishing gloves don't last long, or they don't like mineral spirits:

Three drawers, the pull-out shelves, and both supports are now stripped and wiped with mineral spirits:

(The remaining paint is being referred to as "patina".)

I've started stripping the other three drawers, but they still need more stripping. The top is still in the same state. Here's an overview of everything:

Uh-Oh...

I *ache* all over... I sure hope I'm not coming down with something!

Well, I'm doing my laundry now, and have had a nice nap, so perhaps I can get caught up on a bit of blogging or e-mailing friends. (If no more posts appear, it's because I decided to cook dinner instead... I really should do that too.)

Owie... I hurt. Whine.

Just a general overview as to what is up with me:
• Life is *busy*!!!
• The help centre is crazy busy... I think I'm popular.
• I've been tutoring my student lots... three times per week, plus sometimes extra sessions. I'm tutoring him in two courses this semester.
• When I'm not tutoring in the morning, I'm sleeping. I can't seem to manage to get to bed at a reasonable time, and sleeping in on the off mornings is how I catch up.
• I haven't made any progress recently in my dissertation. That needs to change.
• The desk refinishing is progressing. Whenever I'm not otherwise engaged in the evenings or on weekends, that's where I am.
• Evenings and weekends have been busy too... visiting with friends, knitting groups, art club, a workshop, an alpaca farms tour...

Okay, now to upload some photos and blog them. :)

Sock Yarns

Sock Yarns

As part of the airing of the stash, I'm sorting things so that they're more organized. I thought I'd put my sock yarn in it's own (admittedly smaller than the other) bins. It doesn't fit. And that's not counting the three pairs worth I have at school, the socks in progress, or any of the scraps. Or the four pairs worth I just ordered from The Sweet Sheep. (I stupidly read that she stocked more LoveSticks, and then I also noticed that she had some lovely sKNITches Syncopation. Whoops.)

Can someone please remind me of this the next time my mouse is hovering over the "check out now" button...? (But they are all pretty and lovely...)
